 The past couple of weeks in Grade 4: -we are learning about decimals and fractions (tenths and hundredths) and developing our understanding through art, games, money, models and picture representations. Counting change at home and talking about tenths and hundredths is a great way for kids to practice at home. -in math we learned about Palindromes and looked for patterns  -we went to Telus Spark and did a shadow program where we wrote a script and created a puppet play, some students also dissected owl pellets, lied on a bed of nails and experienced VR. -we began planning suspense stories and have focused on description, hooks and a strong introduction so far -we are making maps of our own islands that need to include a legend, scale, compass rose, capital city and other landmarks -in Social Studies, we are learning about the regions of Alberta and began exploring resources, vegetation, landforms and wildlife of the Parkland reagion -we did a refraction experiment in science ...

Week of October 8

 This week in Grade 4..... -we have been learning about patterns in math and have explore numbers on the calendar and Pascal's triangle -played basketball, Indiana Jones and Monster ball in gym -we learned about 'show, don't tell' when writing and explored how to show emotions (eg. instead of saying 'she was scared' say 'her knees trembled and her heart pounded") -students presented their friendship projects to the class -we painted and sculpted Balsam Poplar trees and continued research about them -we did a book walk of text about Alberta, chose interesting topics and completed 3 tasks about the topic

Week of October 2

 This week in Room 5   -we our first field trip to weasel head park(we net elder Harley). Ask me about our tree named Gary -half of us finish our plant model and did a self assessment based on the criteria  -we met our other grade 1 buddies and helped them make turkey crafts  -we read more of wish tree  -we did our bioluminescence picture with glow in the dark paint -we talked about cause and effect -we researched about balsam poplars -we are learning basketball in gym and Maya and Rylea taught us a game called bump Upcoming field trips October 23 Telus Spark Nov. 7 Fort Calgary
